Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you take my insurance?

We bill most PPO plans. We do not take Medicaid or Medicare, and we give you names of colleagues who do. Fees and plans are on the fees page.

What is a superbill and how do I use it?

It is a monthly itemized receipt you send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see, and your plan decides whether it pays anything.

What is a good faith estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of your care before you start. If the final bill is $400 or more above it, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

How much does it cost and how do fees work?

Your fee is given in writing before you start. The fees page explains insurance, receipts, estimates and reduced-fee visits.

Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. We take HSA and FSA cards at the end of each visit.

What happens in the first session?

The first visit is with the adults. Lissette hears what you want to share, explains how she works and the limits of confidentiality, and the child joins at the second visit. Your first session page has the steps.

How often and how long are sessions?

A visit is 50 minutes. Many families start weekly, and Lissette sets the pace with you. There is no set number of sessions.

Are you licensed where I live?

Lissette is licensed in New York. She sees families in person in Rochester and by video when the child is in New York during the visit.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This practice is not monitored around the clock. If your child is in foster care, tell the caseworker as soon as it is safe.

What is private, and what are the limits?

Sessions are private. Lissette explains in writing what she keeps between her and the child and what she shares with the adults, including a risk of serious harm. Reports the law requires are made.

Can you see my teen, and how does consent work?

Yes, for ages 12 to 17. A parent or legal guardian consents in writing first; for a child in foster care, the person who can sign depends on the child's legal status. The consent page explains it.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment. If something unexpected happens at home, call us and we will work it out.

Is there a question left?

Ask when you call. There is no question too small.
